Thank You for the Light of the World Award

I’d like to extend a special thank you to http://www.hisperfecttiming.blog   for a very special award given to those blogs “whose presence on the web serves as a shining light for Christ and His Gospel of salvation.”  That’s quite an honor, thank you! I have been truly blessed via the internet to obtain many wonderful followers who have become very close friends. She is certainly one of them.

This lovely award, created by Joe Rodriguez of Lighthouse Devotions,  http://www.lighthousedevotions.blog  (one of the rules is to mention him in your prepared acceptance post.) So thank you Joe for creating an encouraging award. All who post this to our site strive to motivate others to become their best self, pleasing to our Lord.

The Rules for Acceptance:

  1. Save and add the award image (pictured here) on your blog.
  2. Create a page/post to mention the award nomination and thank the person/blog that nominated you. Make sure you provide a link to their site.
  3. Give credit to the creator of the award (Lighthouse Devotions) and provide a link to the site as well. (http://www.Lighthousedevotions.blog)
  4. List the rules.
  5. Answer the next four questions on the same post:
What three words would you use to describe your blog?
In what way(s) can a Christian shine for Christ?
What bible verse (quote it) talks about being a light in a dark and lost world?
What Christian song do you know that has the word “light” in it? Provide a link if available.
  6. Nominate 7 or more people/blogs to receive the award. Briefly explain why you think they should receive it and provide a link to their sites.
  7. Contact them and let them know that you nominated them.
  8. Provide them with a link to the Rules page.
  9. Say a prayer thanking God for His light and ask that He continue to shine it through you and your blog.
  10. Keep shining the light of Christ wherever you go and in whatever you do!

Here are my answers to His Perfect Timing’s questions:

1. What three words would you use to describe your blog?

“Biblical Nutritional Truth”  There are so many false diet gurus out in the world today who profess a false dietary doctrine which contradicts God’s Word of physiological Truth. Don’t believe everything your “itchy ears” want to hear simply because it sounds easy and quick!

2. In what way(s) can a Christian shine for Christ?

One way is to present our bodies as living sacrifices, practicing self-control over food cravings. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.”  (Romans 12:1)

3. What bible verse (quote it) talks about being a light in a dark and lost world?

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  (Psalm 119:105)

Many people are in the dark about what constitutes a sensible daily diet. That path can literally lead to one of destruction through dangerously high cholesterol levels, heart disease, diabetes and even cancers.

I urge you to discover what God already knows and has encouraged us to follow, a common-sense physiological pathway – which He laid down in Genesis 1:29 & 9:3 – for that way leads to a healthier lifestyle.

4. What Christian song do you know that has the word “light” in it? Provide a link if available.

Perhaps Chris Rice, “Go Light Your World.” By exhibiting a strong Christian testimony, others seek what you have.

Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world

My nominations in no particular order and I love everyone of my 3200+ followers:

  1. Matthew Winters, Comeback Pastor  https://mdw4christ.wordpress.com  His Biblical insight is soooo incredible, that I’ve sent many links to my pastor husband.
  2.  Yelobird, Tammy of  http://www.yelobrd777.com   Her prayerful encouragement never failed to bring peace to my soul, She’s not only my wonderful sister in Christ, but also my personal prayer warrior!
  3. Randy, another wonderful pastor friend who provides Wisdom in all his posts which is an encouragement to me.  https://kingdompastor.wordpress.com/ The world needs more strong, intelligent Biblical pastors like Randy and Matthew!
  4. Wendy Endaya of   https://harvestofhealing.wordpress.com    My gosh, I know if she lived in my town, I’d be over at her house daily for Christian fellowship! I thank her for her prayers of encouragement as we endured tough times recently.
  5. Bob Clark posts on Facebook: https://plus.google.com/+RobertClarke He is always is there with an intelligent comment attached to a Scripture verse and he knows nutrition!!!
  6. Lisa Riehm, another strong-minded Christian woman who physically struggles with Lyme disease. You’d never know it however, for her positive attitude is an inspiration to all!  https://thewhisperwithin.live
  7. Sheila, my Christian Outreach friend in Italy (the gorgeous city view on her site is worth the click alone!)  https://sheilascorziello.com.   My heart broke when we couldn’t meet after my Italian missionary trip was canceled. But if not soon, I know we will eventually

It’ll really keep you busy and enlightened!

So here are the rules:

The rules of the Liebster Award are as follows:

1) Acknowledge the blog who nominated you for this award.
2) Answer 11 questions the blogger gave you.
3) Give 11 random facts about yourself.
4) Nominate 11 blogs.
5) Notify them.
6) Give them 11 questions to answer

MY QUESTIONS TO ANSWER”

How did you get started blogging?

A. I began this blog five years ago after I began to notice the many similarities of mental, physical and Spiritual health to food and godly living.

Where do you find your inspiration?

A. I found inspiration from Biblical illustrations, my husband’s sermons, my pets, my bookshelves as well as specific questions from followers regarding healthy living.

Have you learned any important lessons along the way?

A. Those who focus on people rather than their Creator will always be disappointed. God gives us patience to not expect perfection from others. B. Many are hurting; searching for encouragement, validation and purpose in life. C. Words and integrity matter. If you say you’ll do something, keep your word

What is one thing you can share with others about blogging?

A. One can accumulate friendships from all over the world through blogging and I look forward to seeing these fellow Christians in Heaven where we’ll have eternity to get to know each other in person!

Have you found blogging to be profitable?  If so, what’s the secret?

A. Nope, my blog is a ministry and so are my books – although I would hope that those who promised their review, would keep their word. If they didn’t enjoy it, contact me privately.

How long did it take for you to develop your own unique style?

I didn’t realize I had a distinct style until a lady contacted me in Arizona for a seminar. She told me, “I googled, ‘Speaker, Christian, nutritionist . . .’ and congrats, you’re it!” When God moved us from AZ to Ohio, I spoke at her women’s group and we became instant friends going on 3 years now.

Who would you like to read your blog that isn’t reading it now?

Those who are attempting dangerous fad diets! Attempting to become healthier through crazy and illogical ways is not how God intended us to live.

How much time do you spend on your blog every week?

A.  Probably a good 10-12 hours by researching, composing, posting and reading/replying to follow up questions.

How long have you been blogging?

A.  5 years without missing a week – (it might be time to take a sabbatical)

Where do you see your blog in the future?

A. Hopefully continuing to motivate others.

What one word describes you?

A.  Enthusiastic

Thank you for “One Lovely Blog Award”

one-lovely-blog-award[1]

This post is long overdue. It arrived the day before we left Arizona and I promised to pass it along as soon as I could, so thank you Heather for your patience. Now that we have the internet installed in our new home. I hope to get back to writing regularly.

So thank you Heather for thinking of me. What a sweet surprise and such a lovely award. I am always humbled when someone believes my work is worthy of recognition.  You can check out Heather’s blog at   http://heatherbergdahl.com  or http://survivemedschool.blogspot.com/.  Currently she is a hard working student and amazingly versatile!  Who knew this beautiful young lady, who looks like a fashion model, works on automobiles with the same surgical procedures as she does attending medical school? (I hope she’s one the “Versatile Blogging Award” as well!)

Here are the rules for accepting this award:

  • Thank the person who nominated you for the award.
  • Add the One Lovely Blog logo to your post.
  • Share 7 facts/or things about yourself
  • Nominate  (up to if you’re new to blogging) 15 bloggers you admire and inform the nominees by commenting on their blog.

So 7 things people might not know about me:

  2. Some of my blogging friends have become as close as family!
  3. I have had a recent book published entitled, “Life’s Too Short to Eat Bad Cheese . . .”  a perfect Christmas gift! Great for women’s Bible studies too!
  4. I participated in theater when I was younger and was a children’s theater director for a couple of years.
  5. I have been a military wife, golf pro’s wife and now a pastor’s wife all wrapped around one guy.
  6. I was once overweight but keep healthy and control my weight through the discipline of loving God more than chocolate or processed foods.
  7. Been to 49 states and I’m happy to say that Ohio has some of the friendliest residents in the US!

Now to nominate up to 15 bloggers deserving of this award. All of these are truly lovely and worth discovering:

“Do these awards make my head look too big . . . ?”

I love awards! I especially appreciate the thought that goes into giving them. And for Kim, to think of me amongst all of her 7.65 million followers, was extremely humbling. I very much want to thank my new friend from St. Louis and fellow blogger of https://kimgosselinblog.wordpress.com/ for nominating me for these two awards – I hit the jackpot here! This is fun as well as informative since I LOVE  discovering even more about my friends around the world. I appreciate and accept the The Versatile Blogger Award and the Sunshine Award!  I urge you to please visit this very talented woman’s well written and upbeat blog about finding joy in everyday life.versatileblogger11[1]

sunshine-award1[1]

The rules of acceptance for the above awards are as follows:

1)  Thank the person who has nominated you.

2)  Place the award badges on your blog page.

3)  Answer the ten questions listed below.

4)  Pay it forward!  Nominate ten deserving bloggers for the same awards. See, Easy Peasy . . .

So now let me answer those “Ten Delightful Questions” and I’d love to know how anyone else would answer them if one sticks out:

1)  What is my favorite food? Anything with garlic (I know weird)

2)  Who is my favorite actor? Oh, there are so many.  I enjoy watching versatile actors: Morgan Freeman never makes a bad movie and  Gene Hackman plays  good types as well as he does bad.

3)  What is my favorite television show?  I like “The Voice” but feel it is going to get a little old seeing it twice a year. Favorite Christian program: Answers in Genesis with Ken Ham!

4)  What is my favorite “Tear Jerker? Of course any movie where the dog dies in the end is a given for me!

5)  Tea or Coffee?  I enjoy dark, rich coffee although I was a tea drinker as a teen.

6)  What is my favorite sport?  What month is it? And what isn’t my favorite sport? Hmmm . . . Spent a lot of my college dates in Fenway Park, married a jock and learned to play golf,  tennis, run, cross country ski and watch NASCAR. And I actually worked with the Redskins on a couple of projects when we lived in D.C. So “You make the call!”

7)  What is my lucky number? Number 7 because it’s the number of completion.

8)  What is my favorite holiday?  Has always been Mother’s Day as I tried to instill fun into it with time-together activities as a family. (Like pulling teeth with the kids though)  After many years, I believe we might be  getting back on track again.

9)  Twitter or Facebook? … oh I guess Facebook because of the photos but personally I’d rather have an actual hug than glance at what could have been from across the miles.

10)  What is my favorite Christmas movie? (Do they  currently know what MONTH it is?)  “A Christmas Story” with Dickens, “A Christmas Carol” a close second.

So now I must choose ten bloggers to pass along my nominations to. This is always the hardest part because it’s like saying which kid do I like the best? Every one of them! However I usually nominate followers who comment a lot because I LOVE to converse with my round-the-world friends! (Speaking of which: Please drop me a comment when your post goes online? Thanks)

Thanks for the Versatile Blogger Award!

versatile-blogger[1]

I’d like to thank my good friend and versatile blogger himself, Liam, for another sweet award nomination; The Versatile Blogger Award. Appreciate his thoughtfulness but  need a larger home with a bigger mantel.

As the award states, I must tell you 7 interesting aspects of my life and nominate up to 15 others to pass it along.

Okay, so here’s the list:

1.  I haven’t blogged much over the past several weeks due to revising my book  “Life’s Too Short to Eat Bad Cheese ” (Nutritional and life lessons God teaches us) for publication. It should be coming out the end of July. So exciting!!! Stay tuned!

2.  I was a tour guide in Europe for several years. Couldn’t believe I actually got paid for that fun job!

3.  I personally enjoy a wide range of reading genre’s, from apologetic Christian books to Jodi Picoult novels. Love “what if” intelligent works.

4. I don’t enjoy eating at restaurants but love to create my own recipes at home.

5. I was so crazy about horses as a child I created lots of stories about them. Now I blog about my dogs every once in a while, 🙂

6. Was always petrified of snakes and once got caught on our crossing bridge as a kid by one and screamed so loudly our neighbors from a quarter mile away came running!

7. Almost moved to Australia. We sold the car, got all the shots, my husband had a job lined up and then he was drafted. It became a road not traveled but I sure love all my Australian followers – so I guess I live through you all.

Okay, your turn:  My nominees to pass on the award.  Have fun!  All of my followers are fantastic and most of these are newer and yet have become great friends across the miles already. Wish I could nominate all of you.

And the Nominees for the Shauny Award are . . .

My deepest thanks to Kate Bortell of http://katebortell.wordpress.com/  for this prestigious award. She has truly blessed me because as she stated, this award is “to commit to showing humility and love toward all others, and to enhance these virtues in ourselves and others.”  Humility?  Well that’s debatable but I’m honored that someone thinks so. And love? Absolutely!  How I love all my followers who have encouraged me through their comments and support.

All of the nominees below have have touched my heart and life through their kind words. They have brought a smile to my face, a tear to my eye and always inspiration to my heart. Each possess courage and a positive, can-do spirit. These particular nominees are all over-comers who stared adversity in the face and said, “No, Not today! You cannot win! This day is for my LORD!!”  As always I wish I could nominate so many more because my followers have become my friends and I hated to leave some out.

The criteria for the award  (credit given to The Invisible Sage blogger, (http://theinvisiblesage.wordpress.com) said it better than I could)

The idea behind the award is to commit to showing humility and love toward all others, and to enhance these virtues in ourselves and others. It is also to encourage ten other blogs by co-nominating them because they show such traits as well. Key points then, as stated by another recipient of the award, are to:

  • Show humanity and humility
  • Show love
  • Be yourself
  • Don’t be others
  • Don’t gossip
  • Share the award with 10 others
  • Link back to the person who nominated you for this award
  • Display the award logo with pride on your blog/site. That’s it!  Simple. Congratulations and go spread the love around!

Extra Post: Two Unexpected Rewards, Gratefully Accepted

Liebster awardWell my dear friend Liam, http://www.thelifeofathinker.wordpress.com  has nominated me once again for two lovely awards, The Liebster Award and The Inner Peace Award.  Blogging friends for almost a year now, he has spoiled me with his kindness in nominating me.  (Since he has even more followers than I do, it is indeed an honor for him to recognize me.)

These awards happen to be more involved than others I’ve won, so nominees feel free to work on them at your own pace – you’ll discover it’s fun to learn about your wonderful followers this way! inner peace award

Here are the Rules:

1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
2. Nominate (up to) eleven bloggers for these awards.
3. Notify the bloggers.
4. Ask eleven questions the bloggers must answer upon receiving the nomination.
5. Answer the eleven questions you were asked when you were nominated and post your awards.

The  Questions I was asked by Liam:   (Can you tell he’s British?)
1. What is your favourite song, and why?   “Go Now” by The Moody Blues, an oldie from the mid ’60s.  I’ve always loved its haunting tune.
2. What is your favourite book, and why?  Besides The Bible?  To Kill a Mocking Bird.  The perfect coming of age book and besides, I was absolutely the character Scout, same haircut and everything! As a curious kid I always was getting into trouble.
3. Which do you prefer, chocolate or sweets?  Dark Chocolate, the darker the better!  I used to even sneak some of the bitter chocolate used for baking, when my mom wasn’t looking.
4. Which do you prefer, reading a book inside by the fire when it is winter, or sunbathing in the summer?  Being a bookworm, it’s reading books outside in our 72 degree Arizona winter. Since we used to live in Myrtle Beach it would have been sunbathing but now since we live in the hot dry heat of Arizona, I’d  be a raisin in the sun if I basked in it during July and August.
5. Do you play any musical instruments? If not, what instrument would you most like to play?  I was the only member of the band that the instructor practically begged to quit.  Ouch.   I would have loved to have played the harp but it’s just a trifle large to march with.
6. Which could you not live without, your computer or your phone?  Today, with Skype, a computer can take the place of a phone and  is what I would miss the most.
7. Which do you prefer, the books or the film adaptations?  I much prefer to use my imagination with books, although I do enjoy movies when they are well-done. Case in point; To Kill a Mockingbird was perfectly interpreted in the movie.
8. What is your favourite drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)?  a pomegranate martini.
9. What is your favourite food?  Almost any Seafood: Crab, Lobster, Scallops, Shrimp (but not calamari)
10. What is your favourite movie?   The Shawshank Redemption with its well written script and intelligent ending. (Finding Forrester and Man in the Moon with Reese Witherspoon, too.)
11. Where is your favourite place in the world?  Sitting on Mykonos beach in Greece at sunset, simply watching the water lap the ships along the shore as the sun goes down.

The Nominees:  (up to 11) who are just some who have brought me inner peace and support through their friendships.

Proverbs 27:9  “The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.”

Thanks for the “Wonderful Team Member” Award!

Well, what a wonderful surprise!  As I logged on to my blog this morning, I discovered that my dear friend Liam, had nominated me for another award!  He’s been a wonderful, loyal friend for nearly eight months now, so please check out his blog,  http://thelifeofathinker.wordpress.com.  Liam’s a very talented writer, musician and interviewer.

I’m extremely grateful that this is such an easy one to win.  No revealing, personal attributes necessary.  Whew, dodged a bullet there, didn’t we?  The icon below is now sitting on my mantel with all the other awards I gratefully accepted but am not sure I deserved.  Nevertheless, it’s not going to be given back!

Wonderful team member award

Philippians 1:3 “I thank my God every time I remember you.”

Thank you for another award!

 beautiful-mama-blog-award1

I was very touched to receive another award nomination last week: a humbling Beautiful Mama Blog Award.  I wish to thank one of my wonderful followers http://futureflyingsaucers.wordpress.com for this honor.  I’m quite certain my poor children might have second thoughts on this one, but in my defense, I believe I actually got better with time.  Please check out Flying Saucers blog because I guarantee you’ll enjoy it!

There are some things I’m supposed to do to justify posting this award.  They are: share three things I love about motherhood and then nominate as many other mothers who blog as I want.

As per the rules, I can tell you three things I enjoyed about Motherhood:

  1. It’s satisfying when you drag your children kicking and screaming to an event and afterwards they shuffle the ground with their feet and mumble, “Thanks Mom, that was actually fun.”
  2. That it’s a “in our humanity” justifying emotion, hearing your daughter gripe about things that her daughter does that we actually endured with her!  This too shall pass . . . my sweet thing . . .
  3. That as a grandmother, I can rectify many wrongs that occurred when as a Mom, I was too young and impatient to endure at the time. Praise God for His redemptive grace and loving children! How grateful I am to God for them!

Now on to the nominations: I have many wonderful followers who are terrific mothers, so I’m missing plenty, but I’d like to nominate the following and hope they’ll accept:

I’d also like to nominate http://farmfoodieandfitness.com even though I realize she’s extremely busy and might not be able to pass it on. If anyone is actually too busy to accept, it’s no big deal.  I wanted the blogging world to know that you’re all amazing mothers with  terrific sites!  You can nominate one or many others – there’s no pressure with this particular award, it’s just fun.  I do hope it draws others to your page!

(And if http://storyland4.wordpress.com/  hadn’t already been nominated, I would have, because of her family devotion and steadfast, unwavering spirit to conquer Joshua and Caleb sized mountains in her life! Nothing defeats this woman!)

Philippians 1:3  “Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.
