Those of you who have been published, know it’s always so exciting to see your years of hard work going into its final production stage! I’ve been assured that it won’t be long before mine will be available. As much as I enjoy my Kindle (and this will be available as an e-book too) there is nothing like touching the pages of an actual book, agree?!
The title of my book refers to an expression I proclaimed to many a patient while practicing nutritional counseling for over twenty years: Don’t settle for second best!
This is not meant to be just another diet book; it is meant to be a positive philosophy on how to honor God with our earthly bodies by choosing wisely.
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)
“Life’s Too Short to Eat Bad Cheese” (Nutritional & Life Lessons God Teaches Us) addresses how God never meant for us to live on complicated, fallacy-laden, restrictive diet plans which clearly reject our Maker’s fundamental psychological, physiological and spiritual truths. God set Adam in a Garden and provided the perfect Master Plan for health. Today however, people needlessly consume “sticks and twigs,” processed packaged foods, drink tasteless protein shakes or restrict their diet needlessly. Why?
God has already given us the perfect dietary plan in Genesis 1:29 and 9:3. Healthy living is not about denying oneself chocolate, cheese, eggs or any other food while consuming only rice cakes and celery. There is no need to suffer through some restrictive, unappetizing diet plan in the quest to obtain health. If one concentrates on nutrients, they will naturally be healthier. Since most already know that, why do we do what we don’t want to do? (to paraphrase the Apostle Paul.) We would never think of throwing trash in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, so why do we trash our own temple of the Holy Spirit with so many unhealthy foods?
“Life’s Too Short to Eat Bad Cheese” is filled with useful illustrations, realistic applications and common sense! I pray that this encouraging and intriguing non-fiction work will encourage you to tackle the many mental, physical and spiritual connections to food which challenge you. Discover your true vitality through sensible eating, honoring God in the process!
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Where can I preorder!!!?!??!

Ellie, Congrats on the upcoming book! Who is publishing it or are you self-publishing? Just interested. So awesome.

Thank you Allison, I appreciate that comment. Last November I had a mainstream agent interested in my work and as asked, I answered a 3 page questionnaire the end of December when they expressed a great deal of interest. Then I didn’t hear anything for 4 months until I received one emailed sentence, “Thank you. We’ve decided to pass.” Nice ethics.
As requested by them, I didn’t pursue any other publishers because I have integrity. Personally I feel I wasted a lot of time. Previously, I attempted to find an agent for my novel, “Sometimes Marriage is a Real Crime.” After two years, I still hadn’t found one but got a lot of nice, encouraging rejection letters. I finally published it myself on Amazon and Smashwords for $4.99.
My husband, a golf pro, has had 3 golf books published by actual well-known publishers. Great, but they failed to market his work with any degree of enthusiasm. That has soured me on mainstream agents and publishers. Agents get 1,000 queries a month, petition publishers who receive 3,000 + inquiries. One must be awfully lucky to grab an agent, much less an publisher within a year. Therefore I researched and settled on Outskirts Press. Many times they have answered questions before I even knew I had them. My publishers assistant was incredible, my Author Rep needs better communication skills but the finished product I am very happy with the final product except with one error which I failed to catch. My fault. It’s nice to be in control of the book process too. This book was a work for God and sales are in His Hands. If it helps even one person that’s wonderful!
Well, thanks for allowing me to rant (which is very rare for me.) 🙂 I wish you the best of smooth pursuits as you follow your literary dreams. Perhaps you’ll be the next Jodi Picoult! Remember that there isn’t the snobby stigma nowadays to self-publishing. If you go that way, I urge you to look up Outskirts Press and decide how you would like to go. Blessings and support,

Thank you so much! It’s now available on Amazon.com but without a cover photo right now, (but soon.) It doesn’t surprise me that your father was a writer because the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. I am surprised you haven’t had a book published because you are that good! Blessings,

Congratulations Ellie, I hope your book sales will be very successful because that will mean others will have a sensible balanced eating plan to follow instead of trusting in the diet mania formulas for instant slimness or the legalism that Scripture warns us about that some even today are in bondage to.
1 Timothy 4:4 -6 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.
Romans 14:16-18 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but Righteousness and Peace and Joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

Thank you Anne, I appreciate your support and kind words..
Since it is only what we do for Christ that lasts through eternity, it’s important to keep our temple holy and honoring God. It is targeted toward women’s bible studies and with the support of other women, I’m hoping that my book will make a difference. (At a group rate it can be purchased for as low as $11) Blessings to you,
