Declare Independence From Unhealthy Foods!

Psalm 33:12  “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”

beautiful land

One of our Founding Fathers, John Adams, once said thatFacts are Stubborn Things.”   Meaning, one can insist all they want that something might sound true, but that doesn’t make it true.

For example, how many of us get pulled into the “Less fat . . .” (than what? Now it’s 86% not 90%?) “All Natural” (heavily caloric sugar products are natural too) “Light” (yeah, they changed the weight of the package) “sugar free” (but contain mostly fat) advertising? Don’t fall for the myth. Check out the facts.

I believe God is an Absolute Fact, unchanging and can’t tell a lie. When He declares that we ‘reap what we sow’, He isn’t giving a wink and a nod to eating unhealthy foods. We are responsible for what we consume. Now of course anything is fine in moderation according to 1 Corinthians 10:23,  and consuming a hot dog on the Fourth of July isn’t wrong unless you consume hot dogs three times a week, ice cream every day and the rest of the week purchase McDonald’s or Long John Silver’s.  How is that honoring your temple of the Holy Spirit? Eating fattening, chemically-laden choices not only destroy the inside, but messes up our skin and waistline as well!

I was one of those who ate very unhealthy foods when I was in my twenties and I shudder when I think of what I fed our family when I was first married. This was mostly due to our military salary of $212 a month. But I almost always included a salad and vegetable with every meal.  Now today, I could advise the newly married or those on a strict budget how to eat sensibly on very little. And as Maya Angelou has said, “When we knew better, we did better.”

As I continued my nutritional studies and read the Word of God, more and more I noticed the correlation between spiritual and nutritional principles, hence my New Creations Ministries is based on 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

So, since this is Independence Day, I’d like to add a political principle into the mix:

James Wilson, signer of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Constitution and Original Justice of the Supreme Court, declared, “Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is Divine . . .  Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends and mutual assistants. Indeed these two sciences run into each other.”

There are certain scientific, physiological laws that are true also. Sciences work together. Keep our physical Earth, water and air cleaner and we’ll keep our physical body cleaner as well. Embrace the fact that by consuming healthier foods you will become healthier, feigning off illness and age related diseases for as long as your genetically inherited body allows! Eating nutrient-rich foods keep our minds sharper and our bodies more fit. God desires that for you.

So fellow citizens, let’s refuse to take up arms and reach for that ‘Non-fat but 150 teaspoons of sugar’ item on the shelf! Declare Today My Fellow Citizens of Earth (!) that you will NOT be hog-tied to the wicked tyranny of unhealthy junk food which binds your body into an unholy alliance . . . Take up your plowshares and harvest only wholesome foods!  Declare this to be your Independence Day and strive to be healthier!!!  (. . .  mmm, . . .  was that just a little over the top?)

Happy July 4th everyone.               fourth of July

  1. Healthy living” to most people means both physical and mental health are in balance or functioning well together in a person. In many instances, physical and mental health are closely linked, so that a change (good or bad) in one directly affects the other. Consequently, some of the tips will include suggestions for emotional and mental “healthy living.” http://www.healthylivingabc.com/

    • Good afternoon Rosendo, Although your comment came up as a “spam” comment, I didn’t take it as such.

You must be a new blogger so welcome to the blogosphere, 🙂 If you search through my posts, you’ll notice I consistently speak of a total physical, mental and Spiritual connection to food, giving God the Glory for how intricately He designed us. That’s what New Creations Ministries is all about and I pray you will stay connected. I can never have enough friendly followers. Blessings,
